A cold, blustery day at Whitecaps/Real Salt Lake match

2 02 2011

I was able to take in almost the entire Vancouver-Real Salt Lake training match Tuesday, in part because it lasted for 135 minutes.

Real Salt Lake wanted to play three 45-minute periods (halves, and yes, nitpicky reader of Soccer by Ives, I wasn’t trying to be Yogi Berra!) so Vancouver complied. RSL is trying to get into game shape faster with its CONCACAF Champions League match in less than three weeks.

Vancouver won 2-1, first win in first time on the pitch as a team. Read my match report here.

You know me, always have the camera, so I took a few shots. Also I really want to thank the media relations staff from both teams for all of their help and the access they granted me.

And yes, it is cold here. Temperatures haven’t gotten out of the 40s the last couple of days and for central Arizona, that’s a deep freeze. At least it’s sunny but it’s very windy.

Davide Chiumiento (#28 in white) of the Whitecaps centers the ball.

After the first half, Sounders players who saw the tail end walked to the locker room near Whitecaps players.

RSL's Kyle Beckerman (left) races for the ball with Vancouver's Philippe Davies chasing.

Another tall Mexican American in MLS: Omar Salgado of Vancouver, with Jamison Olave of RSL nearby.
