A day with the Sounders in Arizona

31 01 2011

Can’t lie, today was an exciting day and one I’d looked forward to for about a year.

The Seattle Sounders, the team I used to cover and enjoyed being around so much, practiced in Arizona today and I got a chance to watch and do some interviews and reconnect with some of the guys.

First I must say it makes me feel good that the guys remembered me and took time to say hello. Coach Sigi Schmid walked over to greet me, Grant Clark, the team administrator, gave me a quick, “They’ll let anyone out here” line. Goalkeeper coach Tom Dutra was the first to recognize me. Got to talk to Fredy Montero, Jhon Kennedy Hurtado, Brad Evans, James Riley and Lamar Neagle and exchanged a word or two with Kasey Keller, Tyson Wahl, Steve Zakuani and Mike Fucito.

Being out at practice was like old times, like picking up right where I left off last year. Watching, stopping a few loose balls, catching up with Matt Gaschk and Mike Ferris from the team and taking some photos. See them below:
