Under the sun at Vancouver Whitecaps practice

30 01 2011

I spent my morning at Grande Sports World watching the Vancouver Whitecaps at their second Arizona practice as an MLS club.

The team is new, so what they wear looked really new. Dark blue training trops and blue shorts. The exception was goalkeeper Joe Cannon, who was really putting in work today if the stains on his uniform proved anything.

Here’s a photo I took from practice:

Rookie defender Santiago Bedoya slides a pass down the pitch as midfielder Philippe Davies tries to block it.

Veterans Jay DeMerit, John Thorrington and Cannon are all dealing with injury rehab, and were limited in practice but working hard on the side. There was a one-touch and two-touch drill, assistant coach Colin Miller worked with the defenders and head coach Teitur Thordarson worked on the other half of the field with the midfielders ands forwards.

Practice ended with four teams of five-on-five in a mini-scrimmage rotating in for timed periods.
