Mini-stadium Night!

21 08 2010

The Arizona Diamondbacks gave away miniature replicas of what their new spring training home will look like when it opens next year. There was a big crowd tonight at the game – 37,631 – but only the first 15,000, I think got the stadium. Here’s a recap about the game I wrote for AP.

Cool giveaway. I have mini-stadiums of three of my favorites – Dodger Stadium, the Rose Garden in Portland and PGE Park, also in Portland.

This new facility will be near Scottsdale and is to be called Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. It is the first MLB spring training site built on Native American reservation land. So thanks to the Salt River Pima-Maricopa indigenous community.

The ballpark will hold 11,000 fans. There will be 12 fields, clubhouses, training centers and offices.
