Portland Timbers 3, Boca Juniors 2

29 05 2010

What a game tonight at PGE Park. Just got back a few minutes ago. The family and I did the whole Oregon soccer experience thing…rode the MAX light rail to the stadium, stayed until the very end, had a postgame dinner at Burgerville (ONLY in Oregon and SW Washington people!).

I wore my ACF Fiorentina jersey, bought in Italy…

The TImbers led 1-0 at halftime on Ryan Pore’s goal.

But Boca, seemingly mad about losing its previous two matches on their tour of the U.S., cranked up the heat and outplayed Portland in the second half. The Juniors peppered Steve Cronin in goal and scored twice within a couple of minutes to go up 2-1. But the Timbers still had plenty of fight left. Stephen Keel flicked in a header off a set piece for the equalizer, and Rodrigo Lopez, who assisted Keel after he came on as a second-half sub, scored the winner in the 90th minute on bending free kick into the far corner of the net.

The 14,106 went nuts, Especially the Timbers Army. Then the Timbers walked around PGE Park to thank their fans and hold up the traditional pieces of tree trunk that the goal scorers receiver. Actually a cool little tradition.
