The way things are in Phoenix

12 04 2010

First off, it’s hot. I mean even in early April right now.

Where I live.

I have only seen one snake, two county chain gangs dressed in pink and black and white horizontal stripes (courtesy of a crazy sheriff), lots of women with shoulder tattoos and plenty of people wearing Diamondbacks and Suns and Arizona State gear but practically no one in Coyotes garb.

And speaking of the Phoenix Suns, this is what they are doing to sell playoff tickets. PLAYOFF tickets, at a discount no less. How many other NBA cities would have to do these types of promotions? Atlanta maybe? Not sure, but I guess it’s not easy to sell out an arena or stadium in this town.

WHAT: The Phoenix Suns will host a special event next Tuesday, April 13 to celebrate the team’s advance to the 2010 NBA Playoffs, leading into Fan Appreciation Night during the Suns-Nuggets game.

The “Next Stop: Playoffs Coffee Break” will take place from 7 – 9 a.m. at the Roosevelt/Central Avenue METRO light rail stop. Suns President and CEO Rick Welts, METRO light rail CEO Stephen Banta along with other Suns executives, Suns alumnus Scott Williams, The Gorilla, Suns Dancers and APS Solar Squad will greet fans and serve up coffee, muffins and fruit as they head in to work.

As part of the festivities, the team will offer a $5 off discount for playoff tickets for fans who purchase a ticket at the US Airways Center ticket office. Fans must present their monthly, weekly or daily METRO light rail pass from that day to receive the discount. The offer is valid on Tuesday, April 13 only and excludes $10 tickets.

The three METRO light rail Suns playoff wrapped trains will also be in circulation throughout the morning.

The event falls on the morning of the last home game of the Suns regular season, in which the team celebrates Fan Appreciation Night. The Suns will take on the Denver Nuggets at 7:30 p.m. at US Airways Center.
