Sounders FC’s Nate Jaqua has surgery: What a further delay in his return means to the Rave Green

See Freddie Ljungberg’s quote in the story I just wrote for Soccer by Ives. It really sums up the significance of not having Jaqua on the field, and what the team is missing right now.

Dominating a young and scuffling team like the Philadelphia Union was one thing, defeating established and infused units like New York and Real Salt Lake this week is the true test of just how deep and talented Sounders FC is, and from where it will get scoring.

What struck me about the game against New York is it seemed that the Sounders were smaller than the New York players. Most of the corner kicks were harmless because the NYRB defenders were able to get to the balls in the air over the Sounders. The Seattle forwards are not that tall outside of Jaqua, and I think that hurts the scoring chances. I can’t wait for Nkufo to get to Seattle after the World Cup!
